Piling Obrang Vidyo 10: UP Cinema’s Interschool Video Competition
Films from different universities around the country will vie for this year’s top honors in UP Cinema’s Piling Obrang Vidyo: Interschool Video Competition.
Now on its tenth year, Piling Obrang Vidyo is an annual inter-collegiate video competition where aspiring student filmmakers from various universities and colleges around the Philippines will compete to showcase their finest works.Â
To this day, the event continues to be a venue for students to exhibit their works on the big screen. Since 2004, the competition has been in the UP Cine Adarna, an 800-seat theater in UP Diliman.
To be eligible, the films must have been shot on video and must not have been previously exhibited in any theatre, television, or commercial festival. Films for each category must also meet the specified running time: 15 minutes for narrative entries, 7 minutes for experimental entries, and 20 minutes for documentary entries.
Finalists per category were screened by a Selection Committee composed of UP Cinema members and an independent body. On January 11, these finalists will be in competition for several awards including a best film from each category, a Viewer’s Choice Award, The Cinemaster’s Choice, and citations in the Narrative category for: Best Direction, Best Production Design, Best Performance, Best Screenplay, Best Cinematography, Best Sound, Best Editing, and Best Music/Original Score.
The 10th Piling Obrang Vidyo will be held on Saturday, January 11, 2013 at the UP Cine Adarna Theater, University of the Diliman, Quezon City. Finalists will be screened at 1PM, with the awards ceremony following thereafter.
