When in Manila, it is hard not to get sucked into the wonderful world of theater. I personally didn’t totally and utterly fall in love with the Filipino stage until I watched The Sound of Music at Resorts World Manila, though. I actually loved it so much, I watched it almost twenty times. True story! There’s just something about the Newport Arts Performing Theater that just brings you into a whole new world of magic and make-believe.
Cinderella in Resorts World Manila
When I heard that Cinderella in Resorts World Manila was coming out this October 9, 2013; I literally screamed and stared at the poster for a good five minutes in awe. Cinderella in Resorts World Manila. Wow. The last time I watched Cinderella on-stage was in Bangkok in 2008, with Lea Salonga in the lead, and I couldn’t wait to see what Cinderella in Resorts World Manila would have to offer here.
Cinderella in Resorts World Manila: The Press Preview
The press preview of Cinderella in Resorts World Manila happened earlier this month and I was able to catch some glimpses of the magic that it will provide for the audience this October:
Cinderella in Resorts World Manila: The Cast
The cast of Cinderella in Resorts World Manila is definitely a very talented one. From the very moment the curtains opened and I got a glimpse of their colorful costumes and their overall energy, I knew that Cinderella in Resorts World Manila was going to be a huge success! Although we only got to see a few scenes of Cinderella in Resorts World Manila during the press preview, the entire cast definitely left me longing for more.
Unlike most other people in the audience, the cast member of Cinderella in Resorts World Manila that I was most excited to see on-stage was Fred Lo as Prince Christopher. After all, he was perfect in the role of Rolf when he portrayed him in The Sound of Music. And what can I say? He definitely didn’t disappoint. Fred Lo has clearly matured in both looks and talent since his Sound of Music days and I cannot wait to watch him in the full-length version of the play alongside Singapore-based theater star Julia Abueva, who blew me away with her flawless voice in the role of Cinderella in Resorts World Manila.
I was also more than excited to see what the stepmother and stepsisters of Cinderella in Resorts World Manila would look like and be like. I remember them having the funniest and most fun scenes in the show and when Sweet Plantado, Maronne Cruz and Gianina Ocampo stepped onto the stage, I knew they would be giving the audience the ride of their lives. Just check out their hair and costumes above!
Cinderella in Resorts World Manila: The Set Design
If you were able to see The Sound of Music or The King and I in Resorts World Manila during their runs there, then you should know by now how amazingly breathtaking their set designs are. Well, they aren’t any different in Cinderella in Resorts World Manila. The entire stage of the Newport Performing Arts Theater is transformed to fit the magical and fairytale-like vibe of Cinderella and amazing sights to see.
Sadly, we weren’t given a taste of the magical Fairy Godmother scene, which is definitely going to be the ultimate highlight of Cinderella in Resorts World Manila, but we were told that it is well worth the wait – and I believe them. From what I was able to see of Cinderella in Resorts World Manila at the press preview, I could easily tell that this is going to be a show that people will want to watch over and over again.
Of course, before the press conference of Cinderella in Resorts World Manila, we were also able to see Karylle Tatlonghari and Christian Bautista in their roles as Cinderella and Prince Christopher. Together again after Kitchen Musical, West Side Story and Rama Hari; the audience went wild with kilig the minute they stepped onto the stage. It helped that their costumes were exactly the way Cinderella and Prince Christopher’s costumes should be: unbelievably stunning and romantic. Sparks definitely flew and it isn’t any wonder why people keep pairing these two up.
I don’t know about you, but I can’t wait to experience the magic and wonders of Cinderella in Resorts World Manila. When in Manila, get your tickets now!
