Filipina beauty is definitely reigning supreme in the pageant world, even in competitions abroad!
22-year-old Angeline Flor Pua, a Filipina born in Antwerp, Belgium, was crowned as Miss Belgium 2018 and will be representing Belgium in next year’s Miss Universe pageant!
Angel, who is also studying to be a pilot, defeated 29 other candidates in the pageant, which was held at the Plopsaland Theater in De Panne, Belgium.
Before bagging the Miss Belgium crown, Angel was also crowned as Miss Filipina Europe in 2016, and won the title of Miss Antwerp in 2017.
Angel, whose parents both hail from the Philippines, shared that it took a lot of hard work for her to secure the crown. In an interview with ABS-CBN News, the beauty queen said:
“Before joining the Miss Belgium national pageant, we have to first join the regional pageant. I represented Antwerp and we were 35 candidates. I won Miss Antwerp and People’s Choice award. It’s difficult to collect votes, you know. You have to talk to people even if you don’t know them, you have to make them feel like you deserve to win.”
subsequently came under fire after her win as she supposedly did not correctly represent true Belgian beauty.
Responding to the criticism, Angel said that while she may have Filipino blood, she was born and raised in Belgium, so she doesn’t see why she can’t be Miss Belgium, according to ABS-CBN News.
