On its 19th year, the UP Broadcasters’ Guild takes a look back at its roots.

UP Broadcasters’ Guild, or UP BroadGuild, the first and only socio-civic organization in the College of Mass Communication, University of the Philippines Diliman, celebrates its 19th anniversary with a series of events from January 30 to February 2, 2018. The organization highlights its core values with the theme Zero In: Challenging Conventions, Empowering Audiences.

The week starts off with “Grand Pakain,” the organization’s yearly tradition of hosting an all-out food treat open to the college community. This year’s grand feast takes on the 70s diner setting, complemented by an art exhibit that reminisces UP BroadGuild’s colorful history. The event will be held at 4:30 PM, in the Freedom of Information Garden in the College of Mass Communication, UP Diliman.

The celebration continues on January 31 with LAMONAYAN, a food-eating contest organized by UP BroadGuild that has also become a tradition in the College of Mass Communication. On its 19th year, the organization pulls off a fascinating twist by revisiting the “aerobics culture” once popularized during the 80s, turning the said exercise into one of this year’s biggest LAMONAYAN challenges.

Winners will not only receive various gifts from sponsors but can also win cash prizes up to Php 1000! The event will be held at 5:00 in the afternoon, at the Student Activity Center, College of Mass Communication, UP Diliman.

Amping up the anniversary hype, UP BroadGuild holds “Media Revolution,” an annual forum tackling the latest issues in media. This year’s Media Revolution delves into the world of video bloggers or “vloggers,” how they conceptualize their video content and uphold social responsibility as internet personalities. The forum will be held on February 1, 4:30 PM in the CMC Auditorium.

The week-long celebration culminates in “Destino,”1 the annual pre-Valentine concert filled with performances by local bands, spoken word artists, and student filmmakers. Destino will be held on February 2, 6:00 pm, in the College of Mass Communication Dap-ay. Catch UP BroadGuild’s original film and witness performances by Johnoy Danao, Shirebound & Busking, Serge Gabriel, Van Sulitas, and many more that would surely make your Friday night worth remembering!
