Google is rolling out a new feature that will allow users to change their email address. It is something that hasn’t been possible before for accounts ending in @gmail.com.

At present, Gmail users cannot edit their email address once it has been created. However, several tech outlets recently reported seeing a Google Account support page (originally in Hindi) that outlines a way for users to update their Gmail address to a new one, while keeping the same account.
According to the page, users can change their Gmail address by going to their Google Account settings. They may click the profile icon in the upper-right corner, select Manage your account, then navigate to Personal info. When they click the Google Account email address, an option to change this may appear.
Google advises users to back up their data before making any changes.
Once updated, the old Gmail account will become an alias. This means users will continue to receive emails sent to their previous address, and existing data such as files, photos, and subscriptions will not be affected.
The company also noted that the old email address can be reused. Users can change their Gmail address up to three times.
As of writing, the feature is not yet available in the Philippines. Google has not released an official announcement.
