The event will feature the Philippine screening of “Calcutta Hilton”, a widely acclaimed documentary that tells the story of a Fair Trade organization (Freeset) and the work they have done for the women trapped in the sex trade in Kolkata India. The film was set in Sonagacchi, the largest, infamous sex district in Kolkata, with more than 10,000 women trafficked from Bangladesh, Nepal and rural India. The film highlights the role played by social entrepreneurs/Fair Trade organizations in providing livelihood opportunities for women trapped in situations such as sex trafficking.

The plight of women is apparent not only in these countries, but in the Philippines as well. An inspiring talk by empowered women in social entrepreneurship will share their experiences, their advocacies and the work that they have done for the women in the country. A product showcase of their products and an exhibit of women Fair Trade organizations will also be part of the event where you can also buy Fair Trade products and meet the producers behind these items.
