These days, people are becoming more creative in earning extra cash on the side. Some people choose to start businesses or do freelance work, while those who are desperate to earn more do unconventional things. An example is this gas boy in Imus, Cavite, who pretends to refuel a car based on the customer requests, but does not put the right amount, keeping a portion of the money himself.

Kanina, I remember between 6:50pm to before 7pm nagpa-gas ako ng worth P1,000 (yung gauge ng gas ko nasa 1/4 full pa). After refuelling, yung gauge ng gas naging half-full lang.
(A while ago, I remember between 6:50PM to before 7PM, I refueled my car worth P1,000 (the gauge of my gas was still 1/4 full). After refuelling, the gauge of the gas became half-full only.)
When she asked the gas boy if he was sure that he fuelled P1,000 worth of gas, he confirmed it, saying it was 25 liters. She didn’t believe it because it looked like it was only half-full, so she requested for a receipt.
After a few seconds, bumalik si gasoline boy telling me “ma’am pansensya na po naitapon na sa basurahan yung resibo niyo, hindi na po makita, nawala na po mga resibo. Kung gusto nyo po mano manong sulat ng resibo nalang?”
(After a few seconds, he came back, telling me “Ma’am, I’m sorry but your receipt was already thrown out, we can’t find it anymore. If you want, I can manually write your receipt.”)
That’s when she became suspicious. She asked for the cashier to reprint the receipt, and went down from her car to see how the cashier will trace the transaction from the computer. After thirty minutes, they couldn’t find her order of P1,000 worth of gas. Instead, there was only a transaction for P500.
Kinausap ko na yung supervisor at pati yung gasoline boy, found out na hawak na ni gasoline boy yung resibo ko pero tinapon na daw nya! (Alam na! Huli na siya sinungaling!)
(I talked to the supervisor and the gasoline boy, and found out that he was holding my receipt after he told me he threw it out! (He was caught lying!))
The supervisor advised Trina to return the following day and talk to the manager. She gave her name and contact number, and by 11PM, received an update from the supervisor saying that the gasoline boy admitted the truth. He pretended to refuel the car worth P1,000 but only added P500 worth.
According to a comment Trina made the following day after it was posted on Facebook, the gasoline boy was fired from the job. She said, “Okay na yun, masyadong kawawa kung ire-report ko pa sa pulis, saka mas hassle pa yun for me. Let’s give the boy another chance. Sana lang matuto na siya sa nangyari at magpakatino.” (That’s okay. It would be too much if I report him to the police, and it’s too much hassle for me. Let’s give the boy another chance. I just hope he fixes up.)
