A lot of people today imagine themselves being with that perfect someone at a perfect time. And considering how most Hollywood movies depict romance nowadays, I don’t blame them. It’s just so much easier to let yourself dream and fantasize about that person supposedly meant for you.
But that’s my point. It’s only fantasy, and unfortunately for us, we live in reality. And no, it’s not just a cynical thing. So why don’t I believe in the idea of “The Perfect One”? Keep reading and I’ll tell you why.
ICYMI: Relationships aren’t perfect, and that’s simply because people aren’t perfect either. There’s nothing wrong with having standards, but you can’t expect the love of your life to be completely flawless. And also, where’s the fun in that? I personally think that love is all the more special when you stay with each other in spite of all your imperfections. It merely shows that you’re going be together even during the darkest times.
People constantly change, so that means your ideal type changes as well. Today, it can be Person A, but next month, maybe it’s already Person B. I mean, isn’t that one of the common reasons behind break-ups too? You can’t keep up with how much your partner has changed to the point that you can’t even recognize him anymore. And even though it hurts, that’s okay, because we can’t truly grow without changing.
2. We shouldn’t be invalidating our previous relationships
I’m pretty sure that at some point in your past relationship, you’ve thought that your ex was the one. And maybe you don’t think that now, but you definitely meant it at that time. So why invalidate that experience? Though most of us hate to admit it, time is a big factor in relationships. At that particular stage in your life, that person was great for you, and there’s no need to deny that previous fact even if it no longer applies to you now.
1. Love is a choice
I don’t think that love is some kind of predestined thing. After all, love is more than a feeling, or at least it should be. There’s just so much more to love than romance and grand gestures.
It’s actually the little actions that make you realize how much you love a person. Through those, you’ll find out if you’re willing enough to do all these mundane and boring things with them for the rest of your life.
