As Netflix’s newest Korean survival drama “Squid Game” attains worldwide success, Filipino actor Carlo Aquino reveals in an Instagram story post that he was originally going to be part of the ensemble cast.
Carlo shared a throwback of a note he received from the series’ director Hwang Dong-hyuk back in June 2020 in which the director expressed his excitement over possibly working with the actor soon. “Dear Carlo, Thank you for your efforts. Looking forward to working with you in the near future. Take care!!” the note read.
Carlo then wrote in the caption: “A hand written note from a brilliant director. Wooop!! Couldnt be more excited to work with you guys once this pandemic is over. #HwangDongHyuk”
However, Carlo was never able to make it to the shooting of the show, and Beatrice Candaza, the sister of his partner Trina, explained why.
“[He] was supposed to play a role in ‘Squid Game’ but travel restrictions happened. I remember Trina calling me and saying that they’ll stay in Korea for a few months back in 2020,” Beatrice said. “I’m sure there would be more opportunities.”
Trina shared the post and added, “I’m still proud of you [Carlo]! Isipin ko nalang ikaw si Ali.”
