We now know who’s playing our favorite Uncle Iroh in the much-awaited live-action series adaptation of “Avatar: The Last Airbender”!

Asian-American actor Paul Sun-Hyung Lee, known best for his role as Appa in “Kim’s Convenience,” announced on Twitter that he was cast to be the tea-loving mentor of his nephew Prince Zuko and expressed both excitement and gratitude over this amazing opportunity.

“Big shoes to fill by the late great Mako,” Lee said, referring to the Japanese American actor Makoto Iwamatsu who had originally lent his voice to Uncle Iroh for the first two seasons of the animated television series.

“I hope to do honour and justice to this character while still making it my own. Grateful for this opportunity and excited to start,” he added.

Lee joins other cast members Dallas Liu (Prince Zuko), Kiawentiio Tarbell (Katara), Ian Ousley (Sokka), Daniel Dae Kim (Fire Lord Ozai), Lim Kay Siu (Monk Gyatso), Ken Leung as (Commander Zhao), and Filipino-Canadian child actor Gordon Cormier (Avatar Aang).

The live-action “Avatar: The Last Airbender” will be streamed on Netflix. It was initially going to be produced by the original creators of the show but they only ended up working on it for two years before departing from the project entirely due to creative differences with the streaming site.

The animated series ran from 2005 to 2008 on Nickelodeon and was subsequently adapted into a highly-criticized live-action movie by M. Night Shyamalan in 2010.
