If you thought Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 was the end of the journey, think again. What started as a hidden gem from newcomer Sandfall Games quickly turned into one of this year’s biggest RPG surprises, thanks to its surreal world, painterly art style, and fresh take on turn-based combat.

Now, it looks like the story of Clair Obscur is far from over—and fans are already buzzing.
In a recent interview with YouTuber MrMattyPlays, creative director Guillaume Broche teased that “Expedition 33” isn’t the last stop.
Clair Obscur is a turn-based RPG with real-time mechanics, and follows the 33rd expedition to destroy the Paintress so she can never paint death again. The game is known for its world inspired by the Belle Époque, a period in French history considered a golden age.
“Clair Obscur is the franchise name,” he explained. “’Expedition 33′ is one of the stories that we want to tell in this franchise… what is sure is that this is not the end.”
While Broche didn’t reveal specifics, it’s clear that Sandfall has big plans for the series—whether that means a full sequel, a spin-off, or even DLC.

Broche also mentioned that he likes to “forget about previous work” when writing sequels, hinting that the team could already be moving toward something entirely new rather than simple add-ons.
Nothing has been officially announced yet, but one thing’s certain: Sandfall isn’t done with Clair Obscur. That’s good news for players who fell in love with its hauntingly beautiful atmosphere, fast-rising reputation as one of the best RPGs of the year, and its ambitious approach to storytelling.
So, whether the next step is “Expedition 34,” a brand-new tale in the Clair Obscur universe, or something we can’t even imagine yet, fans can rest easy knowing that this world isn’t going away anytime soon.
