The internet is a very strange place. It’s a self-contained world that creates the most unusual viral sensations, like a song about pineapple pens and a girl who can’t properly pronounce “catch me outside, how about that?” Yes, it’s hard to determine what will go viral. These days, it’s a purple bird.
You’ve probably seen this purple bird dominating the comments section in Facebook posts. No one can seem to understand what it signifies and where it came from. Or why it’s even popular in the first place.
We did some research and it turned out to be the Trash Dove, a Facebook sticker set made by Syd Weiler. Like most Facebook sticker sets, it comes in different variations to suit different occasions.
It has been around since last September, but according to the Know Your Meme website, it became a viral sensation after a video of it headbanging next to a dancing cat was featured on a Thai Facebook page with millions of followers. Since then, it exploded to viral fame and spread outside Thailand.
Check out the pictures below to see how widespread it has become:

According to Weiler, she designed the doves while on a summer trip. She told the Guardian, “Pigeons are such strange birds, they have very beautiful mottled, shimmery feathers, but they waddle around and bob their heads and beg for crumbs. They’re like beautiful doves, except they eat trash.”
