Western Digital 1TB 10,000RPM Velociraptor Hard Drive: Now I know why it’s called the Velociraptor

When In Manila and you’re looking into building a new desktop rig, or even just looking for a rock hard upgrade for your hard drive, If you need lightning fast read and write speed along with a big hard drive space, Why not pull the trigger on the Western Digital Velociraptor? It has a spacious 1TB hard drive space and spins at 10,000RPM. Speed and size you say? Now that’s why it’s called the Velociraptor.

Performance: I don’t need to dive in further with the build and quality here since it will need tons of data transfer and abuse to knock down a hard drive, specially one from Western Digital from my experience. It took around 3 years of total abuse of my regular Western Digital hard drive to bust it out of business, I’m pretty sure that it’ll take more than how much I abused my old hard drive to knock the Western Digital Velociraptor out.

Moving to how the Western Digital Velociraptor performed, I noticed dramatic read and write speed increase over regular 7200RPM hard drives. From 7200 to 10,000 gap was a much bigger increase in speed than to what I have calculated over the digits. It may not be a Solid State Drive, but the speed really is fast. Booting time also dramatically increased since I used the hard drive as my overall main hard drive, partitioned for both the system files and for my personal files temporarily for the review. If you need a fast hard drive while maintaining a huge capacity over the limitations of an SSD, then get the Velociraptor.
