Soon, we might see an electronic version of tricycles, called e-trikes, driving on the streets of Manila. The Philippine government announced over the weekend that they will soon make e-trikes available because they are more environment-friendly.

According to city administrator Jojo Alcovendaz, the e-trikes will initially be made available in Ermita and Malate due to the larger concentration of tourists in the said areas. However, he added that the government is not phasing out tricycles and pedicabs.

The e-trikes operate using gel-type batteries can reach a maximum speed of 45 kilometers per hour. Alcovendaz emphasized that these vehicles are not only more environment-friendly but can also become a tourist attraction.
