Watch: Top 10 Viral Videos of 2014

 

 

With the convenience provided by mobile devices, videos have become easier to capture and have become helpful in disseminating information online. Whether good or bad, there were tons of videos uploaded on various social networks this 2014. Let’s take a quick a look at some of the view that caught our attention. 

10. Safeway bus line not so safe

City bus drivers have the reputation of hoarding all the open space along highways, switching without using signals from one lane to another, trying to lord over the roads, and just swerving crazily. For an instance, this Safeway bus driving along EDSA proved of this. Is there anything that can be done about this or should we wait for another accident to happen?

9. BGC guards rough arrest of two Caucasian men

A video of BGC guards doing a violent arrest of two caucasian men was uploaded and went viral around September. In the video, it can be seen that one of the men getting arrested was begging for help. The two were brought to and detained at the Taguig Police station. A few days after, BGC released its official statement.

8. Traffic enforcer sells kakanin to motorists

A video of a traffic enforcer selling “kakanin” (or rice cakes) to motorists went viral online some time in October. The video taken by Tosmags and posted by GMA News Online’s YouScoop segment is caught the attention of many due to the traffic enforcer’s amusing and legit way of making extra money.

7. Traffic enforcer accepts money from bus operators

A video taken along EDSA showed an MMDA traffic enforcer who sits for a little while on the sidewalk and then stands up, walks to a bus that picks up passengers, and accepts money from bus operators. According to MMDA, they are already investigating the incident and will address it accordingly.

6. Street children gets violent against mall guard

Around Christmas season, an incident of street children getting violent against a mall security guard, as posted on ANC, was caught on cam. On the video, it can be seen that a girl became violent when a security guard asked her to stop harassing people entering the mall. Before going out, she even hit the security guard. At the mall’s entrance, other street kids, which appear to be friends with the girl because they were calling her name, started taunting the security guard. One of them even threw a metal object at the guard. Despite this, it can be seen that the security guard was able to keep his cool and not retaliate.

5. Why you should have a camera on your car?

A traffic incident captured on video showed a motorist driving in one of the streets of Metro Manila when he gets stopped by a traffic enforcer. it looked like he was apprehended for driving straight, but the officer claimed that he should have turned left. The driver defends himself by saying the he was on the center lane all along because he knows that he cannot drive straight if he was on the left lane. He said he has video to prove that he was on the center lane all along.

Moreover, he said that he’s getting tired of getting stopped all the time when he passes and asked for 500 Pesos so he decided to capture everything on video.

4. Angry airport police smashes glass window on taxi in NAIA 3

A video of a heated argument between an airport police and a taxi driver was posted online recently. It was reported that the incident happened in NAIA 3. A screenshot of the video revealed that the officer is dressed in uniform with the Manila International Airport Authority badge. After a few minutes of going back and forth with the driver resisting to surrender his license, the airport policeman smashed the window of the taxi. It was only then that the driver gave in and gave up his license.

3. Kobe Paras scores two slam dunks in 20 seconds

A video of Kobe Paras is making the rounds of social media. In his school’s match against St. Genevieve in the San Fernando Valley Invitational, Paras is seen making two slam dunks in just a matter of 20 seconds. The star player led the team won to victory with an impressive score of 104-74.

2. Beyonce Collaborates with Gab Valenciano for New Video

When Beyonce’s 7/11 music video came out, the Internet went crazy. Pinoy fans went even crazier when they knew that the moves on her video were inspired by Gab Valenciano, who is known for his Super Selfies. In the video, you can see Beyonce doing seemingly random dance moves in a hotel balcony, room, and bathroom spliced together. She is later joined by her friends, who also do choreographed moves. The homemade quality of the video and the different dance steps spliced together is a trademark of Gab’s Super Selfies.

1. ALS Ice Bucket Challenge

In the middle of 2014, the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge peaked its popularity in social media. The purpose of the challenge, which began in United States, is to require participants to either dump a bucket of ice over their head or donate to the ALS Association or other foundations that pursue research on the said disease. Though the challenge aimed to do good, it still earned a few criticisms. The CBCP also reminded participants to be conscious of foundations that support stem cell research.

The Philippines, being big in social media, was ranked 8th in participation according to Facebook.
