WATCH: This Escalator Abruptly Stopping and Moving in Reverse is Like Final Destination IRL

On Saturday, an escalator in Langham Palace abruptly stopped and moved in reverse, which injured at least 18 people.

The escalator appeared to move in reverse in high speed, hence, causing people to pile up at the bottom, which possibly caused the injuries.

The incident was caught on video and was posted on YouTube.

According to eye witnesses, they saw about four men and 14 women lose their balance as the escalator moved in reverse. One man injured his head and was sent to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, according to South China Morning Post.

Apparently, people in the area also confirmed that it was not the first time the escalator malfunctioned that day.

A representative from Langham Place said that the mall management will be offering assistance to the victims and fully cooperate with investigations. She also mentioned that the escalator has just passed a biannual safety inspection on March 23.

The escalator that malfunctioned is located in the busy Mong Kok shopping mall on Argyle Street. It is one of the longest indoor escalators in Hong Kong.
