WATCH: The Official Trailer for ‘Captain Marvel’ is Finally Out

Words by Matthew Mendiola

This is not a drill. I REPEAT. THIS IS NOT A DRILL. Marvel Studios has uploaded the first official trailer for the highly-anticipated film, Captain Marvel. The film marks Carol Danvers’ (played by Brie Larson) debut in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Of course, fans already had a look at the Captain Marvel insignia in the post-credits scene of Avengers: Infinity War, but here she is now, finally, in her own stand-alone movie. Watch the trailer below:

Set against the backdrop of the 1990s, the Captain Marvel trailer offers us a glimpse of the titular character’s powers, some flashbacks of her time in the US Air Force, and her first meeting with Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) and a young Agent Phil Coulson (Clark Gregg). We also get to see Jude Law as Mar-Vell, along with the Starforce in Kree military uniform. And no, Danvers doesn’t punch an old lady. That’s likely a shape-shifting Skrull, a long-time enemy of the Kree race.

It’s clear from the trailer that Danvers only remembers bits and pieces of her past. As screenwriter Nicole Perlman revealed, the movie adaptation will be tweaking some things with Danvers’ origin story. How different her origin story will be from the source material, though, is something we’ll have to wait and see. What we can be sure of, however, is that the MCU version of Carol Danvers will be nothing short of badass. At the end of the trailer, you can see Danvers sporting her iconic red, blue, and gold costume, with her body lighting up on fire as she projects energy.
