WATCH- Ryan Gosling Sings in New Movie Song to Song

Did you love Ryan Gosling’s vocal chops in La La Land? Not to worry, because the actor’s next role involves more singing, this time in Terrence Malick’s Song to Song. The film features Gosling as a struggling songwriter who wants to make it big in the rock and roll scene.

Watch the trailer below, which has him singing the 1961 Del Shannon hit “Runaway.”

The film was shot over the span of four years, beginning in 2012 at the South by Southwest (SXSW), a festival of films, interactive media, music festivals, and conferences held annually in Austin, Texas.

Joining Gosling are Rooney Mara, Michael Fassbender, and Natalie Portman. The film is reportedly star-studded, with appearances by Christian Bale, Cate Blanchett, Val Kilmer, Benicio del Toro, Florence Welch, Lykke Li, Patti Smith, Iggy Pop, Arcade Fire, Flea, and more.

Song to Song is directed by Terrence Malick, a respected filmmaker known for the wide gaps between his films. In 1973, he directed Badlands, followed by 1978’s Days of Heaven. His next film was in 1998, called The Thin Red Line, after which he directed 2011’s The Tree of Life. For his last two films, he was awarded the Golden Bear at the Berlin International Film Festival and the Palme d’Or at the 64th Cannes Film Festival, respectively. Both awards are the highest prizes given at the festivals.

In case you weren’t aware, Gosling is one half of the rock band Dead Man’s Bones.

So yes, he really sings.

Song to Song will premiere at this year’s SXSW on March 10, followed by a wider release on March 17.
