There are certain cartoons from our childhood that will always have a special place in our hearts — and I’m sure that you can already think of shows at the top of your head. For me, one of those cartoons is “Rugrats,” a show about a group of loveable toddlers and their day-to-day shenanigans.
So imagine my surprise when I found out that “Rugrats” is officially getting a CG-animated reboot almost 17 years later?
Nickelodeon made the announcement during the ViacomCBS investor day and dropped an amazing teaser trailer video that fueled the nostalgia of 90s kids everywhere. But the comeback of this well-loved show with an updated look isn’t the best part — it’s that the original voice cast will be returning to bring these characters to life!
“Rugrats is one of the most iconic cartoons recognized by fans around the globe, and this original version is one we are taking great care and pride in creating for a brand-new audience,” said Ramsey Naito, president of Nickelodeon Animation.
“Having the voice cast behind these special characters come together is one of the essential pieces to making the show recognizable and we can’t wait to watch this talented group bring them to life again.”
The all-new “Rugrats” will premiere on streaming service Paramount Plus in 2021.
The cartoon debuted in 1991 on the Nickelodeon channel and ran for nine seasons until 2004, earning four Daytime Emmys and six Kids’ Choice Awards.
