WATCH: ‘Rick and Morty’ Alum Creates This New Animated ‘Star Trek’ Cartoon Comedy

Beloved franchise “Star Trek” is getting a new animated spin-off cartoon and, boy, will it be one hell of a ride!

“Star Trek: Lower Decks” comes 45 long years since the franchise’s last animated series which briefly ran from 1973 to 1974. It introduces an entirely new fleet — or rather, a support crew — who lives at the very bottom of the U.S.S. Cerritos, infamous for being the Starfleet’s least important ships in the year 2380. Together, they try their best to accomplish their duties and maintain their social lives while also surviving strange everyday occurrences in space.

Other than the usual action-packed adventures, fans old and new are going to love all the irreverent humor and relatable millennial problems injected into the series that’s familiar to anyone who’s watched the award-winning series “Rick and Morty.” After all, “Rick and Morty’s” former head writer, Mike McMahan, will be helming “Star Trek: Lower Decks” as the creator and executive producer.

The 10-episode series will premiere on CBS All Access every Thursday starting August 6.
