The Campaign Against the Return of the Marcoses to Malacanang or CARMMA posted the following poignant video where the younger generation, often referred to as millenials, meet with Martial Law victims.

On the video, the victims talked about the human rights violations they experienced at the time of Martial Law.

One said that she was raped while she was put in jail. Another victim mentioned of being electrocuted in different parts of the body, and also experiencing what is called a Russian Roulette where a gun is loaded with one bullet, the trigger is pulled, and hope that luck is on your side.

From their Facebook page:

CARMMA is envisioned as a campaign network encompassing martial law victims, civil libertarians, peace & freedom advocates and militant groups which have their roots in the anti-Marcos/anti-dictatorship movement of the late 70s and early 80s that resulted in the historic 1986 EDSA People Power Uprising that toppled the dictator and led to the exile of the entire Marcos family.

Now, this just shows the side of the story about the victims. There may be a significant reason for the need to declare Martial Law. However, it might not make any difference to those who experience human rights violations at that time.

We also would like to find out the other side of the story.

Why was Martial Law declared?

On the comments section, there is a mixed reaction about the video. Some agree while some disagree. Some say this is telling the truth while others say this is twisting the story. Some even blame the DepEd for not putting these details in History books. Others say this is a form of brainwashing the younger generation.

Do you agree with the message of the video? Why or why not?
