This Holy Week, many Filipinos are going out of town or the country to maximize the long weekend. While many are respecting the significance of Holy Week, there are those who forget the real reason why we are getting two days off from work: to mourn the death of Jesus Christ and to celebrate his resurrection.
Our president, Benigno S. Aquino III reminded Filipinos the true meaning of Holy Week by posting a Lenten Message for everyone. The video was posted on YouTube and shared on the Official Gazette of the Republic of the Philippines Facebook page.
In the video, he said, “Ang panalangin ko: Lalo pa nating paigtingin ang pagmamahal sa kapwa, at lagi tayong pumanig sa tama at makatwiran. Sa ating pagkakaisa at pagsunod sa ehemplo ni Hesukristo, makakamit natin ang lahat ng ating minimithi. Isang mapagnilay na Semana Santa po sa ating lahat.” (My wish is for us to love our fellow Filipinos, and for us to choose the path of righteousness. I hope we achieve all our goals as we stand together and follow the example of Jesus Christ. Let us all have a contemplative Holy Week.)
