These students got new rules, they count ’em.
Dua Lipa’s “New Rules” music video seems to be on the hotlist of many amateur, recreated music video covers. One take, or continuous shots, are usually crucial to make compared to other kinds, and given the set-up and the execution of Lipa’s hit single, it has inspired music fans and netizens, out of curiosity, to try and create their own.
This version stood out for the creative rendition and accuracy done by these students, who were applicants for an organization in the University of the Philippines – Diliman. As of posting, the video has been viewed over 200,000 times.
WHEN IN MANILA has reached out to Jade Velasco, one of the applicants of the organization that uploaded the video on Facebook. Velasco clarified that the people in the video were UP Gears and Pinions organization applicants.
“Lahat ng conceptualization and pag-“choreo” kami-kami lang. UP GPs is an academic org under the Department of Mechanical Engineering in UP Diliman, pero kilala sila sa pagiging kwela na org. In the application process, we’re given various tasks, and the Alt F4 and Ta Lipa(pa) vid were some of them. Basically, we were instructed to recreate the music video. In-enjoy lang talaga namin yung task and para ma-impress yung members syempre. It took us 4 meetings, I think, to finish the video. We just had the music video in front of us the whole time as a guide. Our Dua Lipa’s were Niño Sarceno and Jiego Santiago.”

“Di namin sure actually bakit hahaha. I think they wanted to see paano gagawin namin dun sa continuous na shot sa bahay and sa pool.”
(Rough translation: “We’re actually not sure why, hahaha. I think they wanted to see how we could do continuous shots at home and the pool.”)
