If ever you find yourself homesick in New York, there is one place that can help you feel a little more at home.
YouTuber ‘Here Be Barr’ recently posted this video about Little Manila, a small neighborhood in Queens, New York where people can get their Filipino fix! From a Filipino supermarket to delicious restaurants and chains from the Philippines, he says this area is a foodie’s dream. With so many other diverse neighborhoods in the area, check out why Little Manila may be one of New York City’s best kept secrets in his video here:
In the video, John mentions that 1 out of 5 residents in the community are apparently of Filipino descent – and I believe it because, well, we Filipinos are everywhere! Haha. As is evident in the video, Filipino culture is definitely all around in Little Manila – from Krystal’s Lugar ng Pilipino to the Philippine National Bank to a Phil-Am Food Mart, which is one of the few Filipino supermarkets in New York City. And look! They even sell balut there. (Look out for John’s upcoming video where he goes back and tries it. He promised he would if his video reaches 1,000 likes and he’s close to 2,000 now – does that mean he’ll eat 2? :p)
Gotta love how Filipinos always try to create a little nook that feels like home wherever in the world they may find themselves. Have you seen other similar places in other parts of the world?
