James Cameron’s Titanic made history for being the first film in history to reach the billion-dollar mark. It also has the most nominations for an Oscar (14 noms, tying with 1950’s All About Eve), and the most wins (11, tying with 1959’s Ben Hur). It was the highest-grossing film of all time, until it was surpassed by Avatar, also a Cameron film.

The story of Titanic is timeless because it revolves around two people from different social classes falling in love, set amidst the real sinking of the Titanic cruise ship. One of its most important scenes is when the ship has sunk and Jack (played by Leonardo DiCaprio pre-Oscar) holds on to Rose (played to perfection by Kate Winslet). Even if the film was shown in 1997, their partnership has gone strong, with Winslet tearing up when DiCaprio finally won an Oscar for Best Actor for The Revenant in 2016.

Now, we’d like to share Winslet’s test shoot for the movie, where she read lines (in costume) with Jack. Except this Jack is not DiCaprio. The Jack in the shoot was Jeremy Sisto, who would later become famous for his roles in Clueless, Wrong Turn, Six Feet Under, and Suburgatory.

It is said that Winslet wanted the Rose role so bad that she called Cameron on his car phone to say she wanted to play Rose. She told Cosmopolitan, “[James] was on the freeway, and he said, ‘I’m going somewhere.’ And I think he pulled over, and I said, ‘I just have to do this, and you are really mad if you don’t cast me.'”

On top of that, she sent him a bouquet of roses with the note, “From your Rose.”

Was it a good idea to cast Kate Winslet as Rose? Or should the role have gone to someone else? Share your thoughts below!
