Last June, Ju Ji-hoon and Gianna Jun wrapped up filming for their new Korean drama series Jirisan. And now, it has been announced that the series will be simulcast with Korea exclusively on iQiyi worldwide this October.
In Jirisan, Gianna plays a national park ranger, who has to take risks and rescue victims out at the frontline. Ji-hoon plays a rookie ranger who ends up unveiling secrets hidden in the mountain. The story is based on interviews with national park workers by writer Kim Eun-hee. “When I wrote Jirisan at the beginning, it didn’t focus on rangers,” Eun-hee admits. “I was more interested in stories about mountaineers. However, I was more intrigued about their work after interviews.”
Many amateurs often get injured or stranded as they let their guard down after reaching mountaintops. Rangers, instead, believe that “the top objective of mountaineering is leaving alive”. Even under downpours, snowstorms, landslides, typhoons, and other inferior weather conditions, rangers are committed to rescuing victims in the mountains.
In the latest teaser trailer, Gianna and Ji-hoon casually explore the mountains but soon find themselves running around anxiously in the forest with several terrifying scenes in sight, such as a smartphone with bloodstains, and a mountaineer covered in blood in a snowfield. As the characters exclaim, “We were not the only ones on the mountain! Someone murdered people!”, it reveals the unspeakable secrets of Jirisan, a mountain “standing on the border of human world and afterlife”.
