WATCH: Filipino Martial Arts Were Part of the Combat Training for ‘The Old Guard’

Have you watched ‘The Old Guard’ yet? Based on the graphic novel series by Greg Rucka, Charlize Theron plays Andy, who leads a covert group of immortal tight-knit mercenaries who have been protecting the mortal world for centuries. (Watch the trailer and read more about it here.)

With characters who are known to be the best warriors in the world, you can definitely expect the action in the movie to be top-notch. Of course, it wasn’t easy having to go through full-on hardcore training. Luca Marinelli shares that they had sword training, gun training, and tactical training; and they even went through various types of martial arts from all over Asia – the Philippines included! However, Charlize shares that she actually loved doing the film because she loved the challenge that came with the combat training.

Charlize points out that she knew she had to look like she had had to fight like somebody who has been fighting for 6,000 years “That level of perfection is really hard to come by,” she admits. Fortunately, the team that she got to work with really focused on her strengths, and the movie came out awesome!
