WATCH: Drones That Can Plant 10,000 Trees a Day Might be Able to Save the Philippines’ Forests

Although there are many individuals and organizations committed to re-foresting depleted parts of the world, a simple math will tell us that if we chop down 15 billion trees a year and plant about 9 billion, we still lose 6 billion trees a year (World Economic Forum data).

To put it simply, we are not catching up. In fact, researchers have found out that in 2016 the world lost an area of forest the size of the Philippines due to wildfires and deforestation.

We need a game changer.

A tech company from the United Kingdom proposes to be that gamechanger.

BioCarbon Engineering has invented a method where a drone can plant up to 100,000 trees a day. This drone will even be able to go to areas that are difficult to access.

Watch how it proposes to reforest the Earth faster and cheaper.

The tree-planting drone loaded with pods of germinated seeds is able to map out the most efficient planting pattern. It then fires the pods into the ground at a rate of one per second or about 100,000 a day. Just imagine what an army of these drones can do?

This technology is already being used today. The company just completed a planting project in Australia and is fully booked until next year, with projects in Myanmar and the Philippines.

This is very hopeful news. Imagine if more teams start using this method around the world. We might just be able to save the world after all.

But while waiting for this drone technology to arrive in the Philippines, let’s try to save our forests the old-fashioned way. Join tree-planting activities. Create green spaces in your own home. And sign the petition to save Manila’s remaining forest, the Arroceros Forest Park.

What do you think? Could this work to save our forests?
