WATCH: DOT Shares Inspiring Video of Filipinos Helping Each Other During the COVID-19 Pandemic

We smile as one

Life may be tough now with the COVID-19 pandemic but the Department of Tourism is reminding us that we’ll get by with a smile.

Yesterday, the department released an inspiring video showing Filipinos helping each other during the pandemic. The clip is accompanied by the Eraserheads song “With a Smile.”

Watch it below:

According to the DOT, “Filipinos are known for their smiles. Even if we can’t see the smiles behind the masks, their warmth can be felt in acts of compassion and kindness. As we wait out the end of this challenging time, let us never forget to show the world who we truly are: a nation of kind, caring, and compassionate people.”

In a separate post, DOT Secretary Berna Romulo-Puyat said, “These lyrics from the Eraserheads’ classic anthem “With a Smile” have provided solace and comfort for many Filipinos over the years. It is a much-needed anthem for these times. Filipinos are known for their smiles. During this time though, we have had to hide them from view. But through our acts of compassion and kindness, you can feel the warmth of those smiles, even behind masks and even when we are physically distant. Everyday acts of kindness make up this video.”

The video’s version of “With a Smile” is performed by singer and songwriter Bea Lorenzo, whose grandfather and father are medical doctors.
