Fortune Island is a little known island 14 kilometers off the shore of Nasugbu, Batangas. Once the home of a grand island resort (now in ruins), the place is still attracting day trip adventurers from Manila, seeking a hidden hideaway to relax on a white sand beach, cliff jump, snorkle, and get a feel of being on a Greek island through the island’s main feature—its Greek inspired structure of the Acropolis in Athens. The overall experience and vibe of the island is very special and would fit perfect with an overnight camp out (but be sure to bring EVERYTHING you need).
However, the whole place is pretty run-down. There is no water source on the island, no bathrooms or toilets and you’ll find garbage left behind by other visitors. But where some people only see a deserted and ramshackled place in ruins, other people see great potential and opportunity, and especially for photos. I tagged along top celebrity photographer, and my good friend, Doc Marlon (Instagram: @iamdoc) on assignment for FHM to shoot the magazine’s April editorial. This is the behind the scenes scoop of our incredible day at this amazing, overlooked island.
