That’s right, for free!
Here’s the lineup of films you can catch at the Mid-Autumn Film Festival at Lucky Chinatown and Newport Mall at Resorts World Manila:
Red Cliff is an epic war film based on the historical Battle of the Red Cliffs
Headlining the crème dela crème lineup of movies at the weeklong film fest is the award-winning film Red Cliff – the Chinese epic war film based on the Battle of the Red Cliffs and the historical events that took place during the final years of the Han Dynasty and the beginning of the Three Kingdom period in ancient China.
Directed by John Woo, and starring Tony Leung, Takeshi Kaneshiro, Zhang Fengyi, Chang Chen, Hu Jun, Lin Chi-ling and Zhao Wei, Red Cliff has won accolades from different film competitions and festivals including Best Visual Effects award at the 3rd Asian Film Awards and Best Foreign Language Film plum at the 13th Las Vegas Film Critics Society Awards. The film has also bagged major awards at the 28th Hong Kong Film Awards including Best Art Direction, Best Costume and Make-up Design, Best Sound Design, Best Original Score, Best Visual Effects and Best Sound Design.
Hua Mulan is a more mature take on the Mulan we know, the one where Lea Salonga and Christina Aguilera voiced the titular role
Hua Mulan, an epic action-drama movie about the legendary Chinese warrior who fights to defend her father, is also among the must-watch movies in the film fest. Chinese superstar Zhao Wei plays the protagonist Hua Mulan, a role which earned her multiple recognitions including awards for Best Actress at the 19th Shanghai Film Critics Awards, 10th Changchun Film Festival and 30th Hundred Flowers Awards. It’s a more mature take of the Disney Mulan we know, but it’s visually stunning and promising.
The Rooftop is a musical/martial arts film written, directed, and scored by Asian superstar Jay Chou. ‘Nuff said
Also to be featured in the film festival is the Taiwanese blockbuster film The Rooftop. This first Chinese mainstream musical-cum-martial arts film is written, directed and scored by Asian superstar Jay Chou. Combining music and martial arts action in a genre never seen before in Asia, The Rooftop is a major box office success as it has earned more than TWD 250M. The film has also been selected as the Closing Night Selection at the 2013 New York Asian Film Festival.
If you want to watch something light, we recommend the comedy Lost on Journey
All set to provide a refreshing comic relief for moviegoers is the Chinese comedy film Lost on Journey. Directed by Raymond Yip and starring Xu Zheng and Wang Baoqiang, the film is an amusing portrayal of the Chinese tradition of reuniting with their families to celebrate Chinese New Year.
Those looking to unwind and continue the celebration of the Mid-Autumn Festival should head on over to Lucky Chinatown and Resorts World Manila to catch these Chinese films. Admission is free, so there’s no excuse not to go!
