Every now and then, you’ll run across a selfless story of someone who really puts others in front of themselves, despite being complete strangers, and despite barely having enough for yourself and your family.

That’s exactly what Sarah Hoidahl of New Hampshire did. Sarah is a waitress at Ruby Tuesdays in Concord, 21-years-old and a single mother. Earlier this week, she waited on two uniformed soldiers who stopped by for lunch. When it came time for the check, this is what she presented to the soldiers.

Sarah wrote a note saying: “Thanks to the gov. shutdown the people like you that protect this country are not getting paid. However I still am. Lunch is on me! Thank you for serving ladies! Have a good day! -Sarah. =)”

Sarah did this not expecting anything in return. She eventually goes on to say that she ended up making just $8 that day after this and that it wasn’t even enough for gas.

Because of that selfless act that some help from the online world, Ellen Degeneres ended up inviting Sarah onto her show and paying her back for the lunch money…. plus some surprises.

Having brought Sarah onto her show, Ellen initially paid the single mother back the $27.75 the lunch had cost, before bringing out a 50inch TV and then to everyone’s shock – a giant cheque for $10,000.00.

I love seeing good people like this. It inspires me to be a better person myself.

Be kind to one another =)
