Wait, What? ‘The Sims’ Game is Being Turned Into a Reality Competition Show!

The Sims has always been a game that people play to relax, unwind, and express their creativity when designing their dream homes and ensuring their Sims get to live their best life.

But what happens when The Sims is turned into an e-sport? Don’t laugh, because it’s definitely real.

Eleague and YouTube channel Buzzfeed Multiplayer just launched “The Sims Spark’d,” a reality competition show where players will be pitted against each other to take on different challenges in The Sims 4—whether it’s designing a beautiful house based on a particular theme or creating unique characters and storylines—with the goal of impressing the panel of judges and take home the USD 100,000 (~PHP 5 million) prize.

The show will have four episodes in total and will be aired on TBS every Friday and Saturday and on Buzzfeed‘s Multiplayer YouTube channel on Monday the following week.

It’s still a surprise who the 12 chosen contestants will be. They are said to be “online personalities,” which only makes us even more intrigued and excited to find out ASAP. Meanwhile, the panel of judges will consist of celebrities and game developer Dave Miotke, who has worked on The Sims franchise for more than a decade.

“Something that has always been so special to The Sims is the community and how much our players connect with each other to celebrate, share, collaborate, and show off the things they’ve been able to make or share their stories,” Lyndsay Pearson, General Manager of The Sims franchise, told The Verge. “What we’re doing with Spark’d is a really interesting evolution of exactly that. It’s the same DNA, the same motivation.”

Apparently, there will also be some tie-ins with the game itself, with in-game challenges being launched together with the show so that players at home can follow along or try their hand at accomplishing them too. It will also be used as a way to scout for new contestants for the second season.

“The Sims Spark’d” will premiere on July 17, Friday, on TBS and on July 20, Monday, on Buzzfeed Multiplayer.
