Veho Muvi NPNG HD Action Camera Review: A Serious GoPro Competitor
When In Manila, we Filipinos love taking photos! Extremely evident with our almost daily use of social media websites such as Facebook and Instagram. We love taking photos of anything under the sun and especially, during our trips and vacations. What better way to take this photos than to use the recently evolving technology and fame of actions cameras. As the action camera category has paved its way to the photography scene, more and more brands had followed suit in creating their own action cameras. Brands going deep in creating action cameras that cater to wider field of view, better photos, better videos, more durable in different weather situations and sports applications. Tons of features and sadly, prices sky rocketing for more know brands such as GoPro. Thankfully Veho arrives in the scene carrying a series of action cams of their own such as the Veho Muvi HD NPNG that can stand on its own right and keep your budget in-check! The NPNG stands for No Proof No Glory, truthful name for an action camera which is truly ready for some action, coming with an entire array of mounts in its packaging. Sweet!
Yes, I’m sure you might attack me or ponder how this can be a serious GoPro competitor right? Yes, the GoPro is a really good action camera, but there are some things the Veho Muvi HD NPNG does slightly better than the GoPro cams and at a fantastic budget, same goes to the GoPro cameras of course, but the only GoPro camera that can easily best the Veho Muvi HD NPNG is the GoPro Hero3. It is not a competitor of the Hero3+ Black Edition obviously which has more specifications, but I was surprised at how it does some important things better than even the Hero3+ Black Edition. I took the Veho Muvi HD NPNG with me to Japan, perfect to see how it performs in multiple conditions and situations, all photos below are taken during my trip. Let’s get down to the review:

The Veho Muvi HD NPNG as I mentioned is slightly an edge better than the GoPro Hero2 and even a little at a hairline advantage over the Hero3+ in my opinion, because of the colors of both photos and videos. The colors are more vibrant and less washed-out compared to the GoPro cameras from the Hero1 until the Hero3+ Black Edition. Taking photos was definitely exciting on the Veho Muvi HD NPNG since it gave a very nice fisheye effect with vibrant colors that barely need any editing at all. The videos definitely pop-out more due to the more vibrant colors, although, the GoPro Hero3+ has better sharpness definitely.
By the way, did I mention that the Veho Muvi HD NPNG comes with tons of mounts, a remote, and a waterproof case? Talk about a complete package! Two thumbs up! Coming at a very attractive price, and having a whole array of mounts and accessories, this is just really bang-for-the-buck! Far from competitors that require you to buy most if not all accessories separately.
The Veho Muvi HD NPNG uses a 170 degree field of view that gives out a semi-fisheye lens effect in both photos and videos. Do note though that recording at 1080p/30fps reduces that field of view. The 170 degree field of view only maxes out up to 720p/60fps. This is one of the downsides of the Veho Muvi HD NPNG, not being able to select the field of view as an option. During my trip here, I ditched my DSLR and chose to be more compact in going around. I had the Veho Muvi HD NPNG in my pocket and would just take it out for photos. The quick booting of the Veho Muvi HD NPNG made sure that I got my shots at timely moments. It takes roughly around just 2 – 3 secs for the camera to boot-up ready to take photos or videos. It also has an option to start recording videos once it detects a certain level of sound! Neat!
Another good thing though about the Veho Muvi HD NPNG is the LCD screen. The screen is easily readable even in daylight and outdoor conditions and is also very easy to navigate using the touch panel at the front. It may take a few minutes to get a hang of the select and back buttons, but it’ll take just a few usages to master. The Veho Muvi HD NPNG does not have a way to transfer photos via wifi or bluetooth, so a USB will be needed always for transferring.
In conclusion, at a price of Php 7990.00 at Widget City Hub, this is an easy win when looking for an action camera within the price range, and specially if seeking an action camera in a budget. Agains the GoPro Hero1 and Hero2, I’d rather grab this for the price to performance ratio. The vibrant colors that gives it an edge over the Hero1 and Hero2, the complete box it comes with including tons of mounts, remote, and the underwater case. I’ll definitely take the Veho Muvi HD NPNG instead! But against the GoPro Hero3+ Black Edition, the Veho Muvi HD NPNG will surely be behind, thing is though, the Veho Muvi HD NPNG is NOT yet the flagship action camera of Veho. Consider this as Veho‘s Hero2 equivalent on steroids, and consider Veho to be a great competitor with a very attractive prices and bundles against the GoPro brand. You can purchase the Veho Muvi HD NPNG action camera from Widet City Hub‘s physical store and online store. Details below, click the Widget City Hub name below to head to their online store.
