In an effort to narrow the digital divide in the ever-growing presence of the internet and social media, the University of the Philippines Diliman Technology Management Center will be having its first Digital Literacy Workshop entitled, CONNECT: National Digital Literacy Congress 2019 at Gordon College, Olongapo City on 24 November 2019.
According to the 2016 World Bank Development Report, 63 million Filipinos lack basic digital skills. The digital divide is getting wider, as more businesses digitize their products and services and more employers expect basic digital skills from their employees. The consequences of not being digitally literate are growing exponentially while technology continues to transform and disrupt the lives of billions of people around the world.
CONNECT is in pursuit of imparting the audience with the fundamentals of the internet, hardware and software which would benefit students to use personal computers for their own advantage. The digital literacy congress will have minds-on and hands-on training and seminar with resource persons that will teach the basics of computers, Microsoft office, operating system and the internet. The congress anticipates to gather around more than a hundred delegates of students and out-of-school youths who will have the ability to run computer programs and applications after the training.

- Fact-Checking in the Era of Fake News, by Emmanuel M. Tiglao
- Cybercrimes and Cyber scams, by Atty. John Vherlin C. Magday
The digital literacy congress is a great opportunity for the students of Gordon College and the Olongapo community to wise up on how digital literacy can be an advantage for them and gain intelligent guidance on what to expect during this digitization age and beyond.
