UP marks love, destiny to welcome valentines

Love and destiny will mark the biggest night in the February concert scene of the University of the Philippines – Diliman as artists like YengConstantino, Quest, Barbie Almalbis, and Freestyle serenade at the eve of valentines.

On February 13, Wednesday, the UP Students of Destiny (UP SOD) will set a distinction at the annual UP Fair as they stage a valentine concert dubbed as “Kontrakultura 2: Marked for Love. Marked for Destiny.”

Artists Jullianne, Acel, and Sabado Boys (Luke Mejares, Jimmy Bondoc, DJ Myke, Paolo Santos) will also make music for the expected 11,000 audiences who will gather for the said night.

Kontrakultura, on its second year, once again aims to counter the popular culture of rock concerts in UP Diliman, that in some instances led to violence.

“This is our way of going against the norms, benchmarking excellence, and making an impact not just in UP Diliman but also this in this present generation,” said GiaMonzales, UP SOD core team member.

UP SOD is a Christian organization in UP Diliman, the only one of its kind who was able to solely handle a UP Fair night in two consecutive years.

Talking about the previous UP Fair concert they handled Monzales emphasized, “We dared to do what has never been done before by any organization in UP. We made it, so this year, we’re making it sweeter.”

In the past year, UP SOD conducted Kontrakultura by joining Christian artists led by Gary Valenciano, YengConstantino, and Quest. This gained positive feedbacks from the audience who came in, artists who performed, and other sectors that took notice of the event.

A blogger from UP Diliman wrote, “Of all places, I never expected to find God in UP Fair.”

The event will be hosted by Judah Paolo and will likewise be participated by bands all over the metro including Transition Band, Crossworld Band, The Keeprights, From the Author, Sali, and Forces of Destiny. Coro Cantabile and UP Streetdance Club will also be performing live.

Tickets are at Php110.00 and are available at UP SOD booths in UP Diliman. They can be reached at (02) 435-1183 and 0905-689-9946, look for Jan.
