UP PsychSoc Marks 73rd Anniversary with Gunita Celebration

Rain or shine, the UP Psychology Society continues its relentless pursuit of advancing psychology through meaningful service to the community. As it celebrates its 73rd anniversary titled Gunita, the organization highlights relevant national issues, particularly the well-being of the elderly. Through a month-long lineup of events, the group aims to promote dignified care and mental health support for institutionalized elderly individuals, reducing their vulnerability to neglect and psychological challenges.

Last March 27, the celebration officially opened with Takilya: Grand Opening and Pakain, where performances and shared meals welcomed attendees.

The lineup of upcoming events includes Take a Paws: Therapy Dog Interaction Fundraiser, happening on April 15. Proceeds from this initiative will be used to purchase goods for their partner beneficiary, Milagros Elderly Home Care.

At the heart of the anniversary is Pusong May Pagkalinga, Hindi Mag-iisa: A Mental Health Caravan and Online Information Campaign. This initiative includes a series of visits to Milagros Elderly Home Care to build deeper connections with both residents and staff. It is also supported by an online campaign aimed at breaking the stigma surrounding elderly care facilities and empowering caregivers. The campaign emphasizes that placing elderly individuals in care homes is not abandonment, but rather a step toward seeking proper professional support—shifting the narrative from neglect to intentional care.

To conclude the celebration, the organization will hold JACKPOT: Culminating Event, which reflects on the month-long anniversary and its impact.

As part of the festivities, UP PsychSoc also invites the community to GIMIK: Project 73, a perya-themed fundraising social event happening on April 10, 2026, at 8:00 PM at Xavierville 3 Clubhouse. The event will feature free-flowing drinks, lively music, and engaging games.

Beyond ANNIV 73, UP PsychSoc continues to organize initiatives that promote psychological awareness and inclusivity. These include UP Mental Health Month, which aims to destigmatize mental health; Interaction with Differently Abled Kids, an outreach program with Batino Elementary School; and Psych Online Campaign, an initiative that spreads knowledge about psychological concepts in everyday life.

Through Gunita, the organization not only celebrates its legacy but also reinforces its commitment to service, advocacy, and community engagement.
