UP Gets into Top 500 in THE World University Rankings

The University of the Philippines has been included in Times Higher Education’s (THE) world’s top 500 universities. UP is included in the 401-500 group out of 1,396 other universities. It is fourth in the ASEAN region and number one in the Philippines. This is also the state university’s fourth year to be included in the list.

The only other university in the country that appeared in the list was De La Salle University, which ranked in the 1001+ group.

The Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2020 includes universities across 92 countries and is considered as one of the largest and most diverse university rankings. THE ranked the universities based on 13 performance indicators in five areas–teaching (30 percent), research (30 percent), citations (30 percent), international outlook (7.

5 percent) and industry income (2.5 percent).
