The UP Agricultural Society, also known as UP Agrisoc and UPAS, is an academic organization in UPLB that caters to students of agriculture and related disciplines in the university. For 39 years, it has been promoting its advocacies to serve the students and farmers.
Prominente Month is an annual celebration organized by the UP Agricultural Society in commemoration of its founding anniversary. Each year, the event highlights timely and relevant issues in Philippine agriculture through a series of activities that engage students, promote agricultural awareness, and celebrate the spirit of service and solidarity within the agricultural community.

This year’s Prominente Month, celebrated throughout the whole month of November, carries the theme “WansapanaPromi: Mga Kwento ni Lola Baosyang.” It invites everyone to take part in rediscovering the stories, struggles, and triumphs that shape Philippine agriculture. The celebration aims to critically assess the current state of the agricultural sector while encouraging students from all disciplines to engage in meaningful discussions that foster accountability, inclusivity, and hope.
Through a variety of events—such as Clash of the Majors, Dunong Punla, Libreng Sakay, and Open Tambayan—the celebration weaves together learning, camaraderie, and creativity, offering spaces where students from all disciplines can explore the importance of agriculture in nation-building.
Clash of the Majors
The Clash of the Majors event is a career orientation for students of BS Agriculture who have or are yet to apply to different agriculture majors and specializations.
The primary goal of Clash of the Majors is to introduce the diverse opportunities available within the different majors, offer guidance on career paths, and share insights into the professional avenues that each specialization opens up after undergraduate studies.
Happening on November 4–5, we will be inviting distinguished speakers from various fields within Agriculture to provide their expertise and insights during the event.
Objectives
● To orient BS Agriculture students who have or are yet to apply to the opportunities that different majors offer after their undergraduate studies.
● To promote the organization’s advocacies to serve as a channel of agricultural extension, uplift academic excellence, and actively participate in many agriculture-related activities.
Dunong Punla
This year’s Dunong Punla will happen on November 13. The flagship seminar of Prominente Month will center on discussions that aim to raise awareness, demand accountability, and promote transparency and justice in the management of agricultural resources, reminding us that true progress grows only from integrity and truth.
The seminar will cover the following topics:
● Assessment of corruption and inefficiencies in agricultural infrastructure projects, including farm-to-market roads, postharvest facilities, and irrigation systems.
● Examination of “ghost projects” and their implications for rural communities and food production.
● Review of government priorities and spending in the agricultural sector, particularly how mismanagement and lack of transparency hinder genuine development.
● Analysis of the effects of corruption on farmers’ livelihoods—such as fake subsidies, delayed aid, and uneven access to essential support systems.
● Promotion of accountability and integrity as the foundation for a just, inclusive, and sustainable agricultural future.
Libreng Sakay
Libreng Sakay extends a helping hand to students and the community in UPLB. It is a simple act of kindness that reflects the values of bayanihan and public service that UP AgriSoc stands for. Passengers can also enjoy light interactions, trivia, and fun surprises during the ride—making the journey itself part of the Prominente Month experience.
Open Tambayan
Serving as the closing event of Prominente Month, the organization will open its doors to the UPLB community through an Open Tambayan on November 18, where students can freely drop by, connect with members, and experience AgriSoc’s culture of camaraderie and service. The event offers free food and refreshments, creating a welcoming space for interaction and reflection on the month’s activities.
