Going to salons was never my thing. For me, a trip to a “salon” would involve an inexpensive haircut (not more than 100 pesos) that would only be a trim of a few inches. Getting my hair colored meant buying inexpensive hairdye from the market and dying my hair all by myself. A “hair treatment” would usually mean letting conditioner stay on my hair for a little longer.
Going to salons was never my thing. That was why my visit to Hair Philosphie by Jing Monis was a completely new experience for me.
Hair Philosophie by Jing Monis
Hair Philosophie by Jing Monis is one of the many hair salons run and owned by celebrity hairstylist Jing Monis. Jing Monis and his team have styled some of the biggest names in showbiz and A-list celebrities such as Anne Curtis, Judy Ann Santos, and Kathryn Bernardo, to name a few.
This year, I was given the opportunity to get a makeover from the hairstylist of the stars for Jing Monis Salon’s “Holidays With The Press 2016.” For someone like me who doesn’t visit salons too often, it was definitely an honor to have my hair touched by some of the best stylists in the Metro.
Here are a few thoughts about my trip to Hair Philosophie:

I didn’t know what pampering REALLY meant until now.
To be honest, I was a bit anxious when I arrived at Hair Philosophie, mainly because I wasn’t used to such places. But as soon as I walked in, I felt so welcomed. The staff greeted me with warm smiles as I introduced myself. Then they immediately offered me a drink, to which I immediately thought, “Wow????”
The way their staff treated me made me feel so special. “So this is what it means to be treated like a celebrity,” I remember thinking.
I also appreciated how they were so patient in guiding me through the whole process, even though I was only going to get a haircut and get my hair colored.
Confession: I didn’t shampoo my hair before I went because I knew this would happen.
It was a leap of faith to let my stylist make the decisions.
Since I’ve had my fair share of hair disasters, I’ve always had just trims or very strict instructions on how to cut my hair. But this time, I decided to let the experts do it. “I’ll leave it in your hands,” I told the stylists.
Due to my request not to cut my hair too short, my stylist just fixed the shape of my hair and added layers—I loved it. And believe me, very rarely would I appreciate the result of my haircut.
Pretty nervous, but hey, my hair is in good hands.
I finally know what it looks like to have my hair dyed correctly.
I’ve been coloring my own hair ever since, and having experts do it made me want to just go to Hair Philosophie every time.
The hair coloring part was a bit tricky for me since I wanted something edgy such as pastel blue or lavender. But since they didn’t have the exact colors I wanted, my stylist recommended violet.
Just making sure that every inch of my hair is covered.
Knowing that violet wouldn’t be seen on black hair such as mine, I requested that we bleach half of my hair and then color the other half normally.
Fortunately, despite my lack of fluent hair-speak, my stylist understood exactly what I wanted to happen. And it turned out absolutely lovely! It was exactly the type of surprising edge that I wanted. It even looks better under direct sunlight!

I learned so much about hair.
I learned so much from the staff of Hair Philosophie. They gave me tips on how to protect my hair from harmful activities (such as swimming), explained why some colors just don’t work on my type of hair, and stopped me from letting my hair get bleached four times in one sitting (thank God, or else I’d be bald by now).
I was also just supposed to get a hair cut and have my hair colored, but they added in a treatment because they realized that my scalp was dry. My scalp definitely felt different after that treatment.
Needless to say, I definitely think of hair a bit differently now.
I love my new hair.
My friends have been praising my new hairdo since my visit to Hair Philosophie by Jing Monis. I don’t even think twice when telling them where I had it done. I’d instantly gush about my experience at Hair Philosophie.

This was definitely a new experience for me, but it most certainly won’t be a one-time thing. To say that it was a good experience would be an understatement. It really was an ~experience of a lifetime~.
