UGNAYAN: Connections in Manufacturing and Technology

The Society of Manufacturing Engineers will be holding its annual Manufacturing Engineering Conference this August 29 at the World Trade Center in Pasay City.

The event, entitled “UGNAYAN: Connections in Manufacturing and Technology,”  aims to bring together experts from the manufacturing industry and aspiring engineers that will be exposed to the field. The conference will be a series of talks from distinguished speakers about the applications of technology in the field of manufacturing. They are:

  • Christian John Immanuel S. Boydon studied at the University of the Philippines Diliman with a bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering and a master’s degree in Industrial Engineering majoring in Operations Research. He is currently an assistant professor at the UP Department of Industrial Engineering & Operations Research, and the adviser of the Society of Manufacturing Engineers – UPD Student Chapter.

  • John Truman Tan is a graduate of the University of the Philippines Diliman with a degree in BA Industrial Design. He is currently the CEO of Vaquform, Inc., the maker of the machine Vacuform, and a lecturer at the University of the Philippines. As an industrial designer, he specializes in what he calls “Design for Manufacturing” in where he helps his clients find the most cost-effective way to manufacture their products.

  • Almira Ruiz Comuyog is a licensed Mechanical Engineer with comprehensive knowledge in product development from concept to mass production. She studied Mechanical Technology at the Technological University of the Philippines and finished her bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering at the Technological Institute of the Philippines, Manila Campus. She is currently the manager at the DENSO Philippines Corporation company’s Quality Assurance Division.

Engineering students from the five SME student chapters (University of the Philippines Diliman, De La Salle University, Mapua Institute of Technology, Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila, and Bulacan State University), along with other top universities in the country, will be participating. Prizes from sponsors will be given away.
