Travel time to Ilocos to become shorter when TPLEX extension gets approved

The Tarlac-Pangasinan-La Union Expressway (TPLEX) might soon become Tarlac-Pangasinan-La Union-Ilocos Expressway if San Miguel Corporation’s (SMC) proposal to extend the said expressway for another 100 kilometers gets approved.

According to an interview of SMC president Ramon Ang on PhilStar, the company’s proposal was already sent to Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) secretary Mark Villa.

The current plan for TPLEX is it ends in Rosario, La Union. With this proposal, the expressway will be continued to reach Ilocos Province.

At present, TPLEX is an 89.31-km expressway from Tarlac City, Tarlac to Rosario, La Union. It now covers Pozzorubio, Pangasinan, which opened in December 2017.

The last part of TPLEX, which is from Pozzorubio, Pangasinan to Rosario, La Union is set to open in June 2019.

TPLEX was created to ease traffic in the northern part of Luzon. More than 20,000 vehicles travel on TPLEX from Tarlac, Tarlac to Urdaneta, Pangasinan on a daily basis.
