This follows an accident involving two trucks caused by an over-height 18-wheeler truck that exceeded the vertical clearance and crashed into the structure on March 19.

According to ABS-CBN, the truck, which was 4.9 meters tall, collided with the bridge with a vertical clearance of only 4.27 meters. The truck driver may face charges of reckless imprudence resulting in damage to property.

The incident also prompted the temporary closure of northbound lanes 2 and 3.

In an advisory, NLEX Corporation revealed that two of the bridge girders sustained severe impact damage.

“These girders have been temporarily supported for safety, but they will need to be completely replaced. We expect the necessary repairs to be completed within two weeks,” it noted.

The agency further indicated that a southbound zipper lane will be implemented, when feasible, to mitigate congestion resulting from the temporary closure of northbound lanes 2 and 3.

“To manage traffic more effectively, intensified traffic management measures will be implemented during this period,” it added. “We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience and thank you for your patience and understanding as we work to ensure your safety.”

NLEX Corporation has advised motorists to take alternative routes, which are posted on its official social media pages.

Stay safe, everyone!
