When in Manila, celebrate friendships. That’s exactly what’s happening here. The UP Philippines-Japan Friendship Club, most popularly known as UP Tomo-Kai celebrates their anniversary in series of exciting events. ‘Tomo-Kai‘ came from the infusion of a Japanese word ‘tomodachi’ which means ‘friends‘ and a Filipino word ‘kai‘ which stands for ‘kaibigan’. So in the real world, ‘Tomo-Kai’ actually means ‘friends friends’ right? Am just kidding, yes it really means ‘Friendship club’. That’s quite a triva, interesting play of words.
UP Tomo-Kai is “an organization that aims to promote the Japanese language and culture, as well as foster mutual relations between Filipinos and Japanese”. That’s quite a cool thing to do, right? Clap clap clap.
This whole July 2013, the said organization hold its anniversary celebration entitled “Owaranai Natsu 「終わらない夏」: A Season of Bliss”. Owaranai natsu literally means “endless summer”.
