I wasn’t planning to fall in love with a French restaurant in the middle of Tugbok but that’s exactly what happened. It started with a quiet craving on a random weekday. I wanted something comforting that wasn’t fast food. Something that felt slow, intentional, and different. That’s how I ended up at Tomate Cerise.
Who would’ve thought that this little bistro in the middle of Tugbok would serve French cuisine? Away from the city’s noise and usual crowd, Tomate Cerise proves that people will come to you when you serve great food.
The Warmest Welcome in the South

It’s not easy to find unless you know what you’re looking for. No big signs, no flashy lights, just a homey façade tucked beside Deca Homes, almost as if it’s trying to keep the magic a secret.
Inside, it’s a different story. You enter an unassuming gate into someone’s garden. There’s warm lighting, rustic wooden tables, the soft clinking of cutlery, and a quiet hum of French jazz playing in the background. It felt like I’d walked into someone’s countryside dining room.
The walls are adorned with a hodgepodge of posters, paintings, and artwork that can only be assumed to have been collected over the years. Similarly, the decor is a mix of knick-knacks that are both quirky and nostalgic. The chairs are mismatched, and the overall vibe of the place is eclectic.
A Menu You Won’t Forget

If there’s one dish I can’t stop thinking about, it’s their Cinq Fromage pizza. Five cheeses, melted into this perfect balance of salty, tangy, nutty, and creamy—laid out on a crisp, fire-blistered crust that tastes like it came straight out of a stone oven. Then, it was topped with candied walnuts. Pair it with their honey and it’s absolute heaven.
You can taste the freshness in every slice. Maybe that’s because Tomate Cerise makes their own dairy. Maybe because the ambiance of the place and its location make it feel extra intentional. Or maybe, the exposure to the outskirts of Davao paired with delectable dishes brings out the best flavor. Who knows?
While Tomate Cerise’s location might be intimidating, its dishes and its following tell a different story: people come here for the experience, the ambiance, and the promise of an adventure. The restaurant has seen its fair share of birthdays, anniversaries, and even first dates. It’s the kind of place that feels like a secret between friends.

In a city full of loud dining spots and Instagrammable gimmicks, Tomate Cerise is a soft-spoken masterpiece. It doesn’t need to go viral—it just needs to be found. And now you have.
So if you ever find yourself in Tugbok, hungry for something honest and soul-satisfying, go find the little French bistro tucked behind the quiet streets. Order the cinq fromage pizza. Thank me later.
