As more and more issues and controversies plague our country especially in recent times, a group of filmmakers and artists have brought forward a short film that aims to serve as a grim warning to Filipinos everywhere to keep their guards up against those in power.
The film, a dark political satire titled “TODAS” (Filipino slang meaning “to kill”), follows the story of a fictional company of hitmen tasked to “take care” of their clients’ targets for a fee. It depicts a reality wherein murder has become the quick answer to all problems, while also exhibiting the immutable power of the wealthy to trample over the innocents.
The film was originally produced back in 2017 by director Patrick Eugenio and local actor Raphael Robes under their production house Anansi Films. But even though it’s been three years since they created “TODAS,” audiences can still find its message relatable today.
“Our story’s intention is to serve as a grim warning to every Filipino of what may come should these turbulent times be left unchecked,” Robes told When In Manila. “We’re choosing not to be silent and we need help to make our voices louder. We hold the line with you.”
“Anansi Films hopes to share content to bring a touch of relief through humor in these trying times. Watch us as we approach issues objectively (and end up being subjective anyway) and at the same time, help open doors for difficult conversations,” he added.
