THE formulates their list by assessing and comparing the performances of 533 educational institutions from 47 countries or regions based on teaching (learning environment), research (volume, income, and reputation); citations (research influence); international outlook (staff, students and research); and industry income (knowledge transfer).

“But they are recalibrated to reflect the development priorities of universities in emerging economies,” THE caveats.

UP was the only Philippine state university to make the list this year. De La Salle University was included in the 351-400 bracket, which is about 100 spots lower than their rank in 2019.

The list only includes universities from countries classified by the London Stock Exchange’s FTSE Group as “advanced emerging”, “secondary emerging” or “frontier”.

Chinese universities claimed the first 4 rankings in the list while Russia, Taiwan, and South Africa made up the rest of the top 10.
