This Online Drag Show Will Let You Control What’s Going to Happen

Tandemonium Mrs Tan

One of the things we miss doing in real is seeing drag shows. Drag performers have successfully shifted online and have given awesome digital shows, but there’s just something different about watching an artist perform in front of you. You can clap, cheer, give tips, and interact with them. At the same time, artists have told us that they miss feeding off the crowd’s energy. We’ll have to wait a little bit more to get back in clubs, but Mrs. Tan is bringing the interactive touch with their latest online show.

On June 21 and 28, 2021, Mrs. Tan will be holding Tandemonium, a show where the audience has a role in how the performance will play out. They can buy “tansan,” the currency of Tandemonium, which they can use to make Mrs. Tan do anything.

“Being locked down in a pandemic, drag artists created their own virtual spaces to continue their source of income, passion, [and the] need to perform. People entered my world and followed. They request songs for me to perform and sometimes, silly things for me to do. In return, they would give their attention, hearts, and most importantly, their cash tips,” Mrs. Tan shared.

They added, “Doing it for more than seven months now, I realized that this virtual world that I created is not only my world but a world that I share with others. Sometimes, it feels like this virtual world is ruled by someone else and I am just a pawn for people’s entertainment. I sometimes feel like I have no choice, I have no voice, and I have no control.”

In Tandemonium, Mrs. Tan shares her experience “as a drag artist doing live streams, how chaotic that world could be and how power is established and how it is played.”

It sounds like an interesting show because we as audience members play an active role, dictating how the show would go instead of just watching passively from our smartphone screens. At the same time, it raises a lot of questions, such as how power is purchased and our complicity when others request weird things.

If you want to catch the show, here’s how you can buy tickets:
