This mayor is donating salary until 2022 worth ~P3 million for COVID-19 fight

Navotas City Mayor Toby Tiangco announced on Sunday that he will be donating his entire salary starting April 2020 until his term ends in 2022 to families who are not beneficiaries of the national government’s Social Amelioration Program (SAP).

(Rough translation: I got my salary from April 2020 up to the end of my term in 2022 computed. The grand total is P3,291,809.76 [P121,918.88 x 27 months]. I haven’t received this yet but I plan to donate the entire sum to our constituents who will not receive the SAP.

I leave the decision to the Navotas CSWDO who will receive the financial aid and how much they will receive. For example, if the aid is P8,000, it will help 411 families. If P4,000, 822 families.

The CSWDO doesn’t want to make the decision. I feel no one wants to do the tough decision of choosing who will receive aid and not because not everyone will receive financial help. I only ask that let’s not get angry if we aren’t chosen. This is a tough call.

We know that this isn’t enough to help everyone affected [by the COVID-19 lockdown]. We are asking for your understanding on this matter.

Still, we hope that this helps especially those who are really struggling to survive [this pandemic].)
