In Maginhawa, Quezon City, a new community pantry has been set up for tricycle drivers, jeepney drivers, and delivery riders affected by rising fuel prices. The pantry, organized by Ana Patricia “Patreng” Non, features a simple shelf of vegetables and other goods, with signs noting it is for “drivers, riders, and tsupers.”

Another sign reminds visitors of the pantry’s guiding principle: “Magbigay ayon sa kakayahan, kumuha batay sa pangangailangan”—give according to ability, take based on need.
Patreng first started the Maginhawa Community Pantry in 2021 during the COVID-19 lockdowns, an initiative that inspired thousands of similar pantries nationwide. The current pantry is located at the corner of Maginhawa and Magiting Streets in UP Teachers Village, specifically to support transport workers amid ongoing oil price hikes and transport strikes.
In a social media post, Patreng encouraged the public to contribute goods or other forms of support to drivers. She also suggested that others can set up pantries or community kitchens near local tricycle and jeepney terminals.
The pantry comes as transport groups across the country continue to navigate the effects of rising petroleum costs, which have led to intermittent strikes and transport holidays.
